Brands Hatch Pre-Race report.

Inspired by the archive photo placed on the official web site I have decided to launch yet another new feature for this report.Yes you’ve guessed it…it’s the Blast from the Past section!

Each month I will be publishing embarrassing photos of the drivers showing their skill and judgement in the racing environment, subject to the following conditions:

Of course as you are all aware, funding is limited for my racing and any generous donation would no doubt result in me being unable to publish a photo of any driver who wished to support Jonesey Racing. (I think I can get away with that!)

So, to start us off then, who has not paid me enough this month…errm I mean who is the lucky driver selected at random?

Why yes, it’s young Mr Burchill from car 13. If you go to the photo gallery & look at the “Round the Bend” album, you will find a nice shot of the schoolboy Burchill showing how not to drive his green metro round paddock hill !

Just to show that I am not afraid to get involved personally (i.e. I will publish ANY photo!) you will also find one of young Jonesey, back in the days when my hair was black, also showing how not to take paddock hill bend. I think it was this incident that gave me the grey hairs in the first place.

Clearly if past performances are anything to go by it should be an entertaining race!

Please send your photos to me via the e-mail link and any cash donations should be in the normal brown envelope at the back of the bike shed.

Any way to more serious matters, a good grid for Brands although class A is looking a little lighter than usual..I guess all the other drivers are sunning themselves in the Bahamas.

Weather forecast for Brands is rain from early morning until midday (hurrah!) but drying out in the afternoon which means we should have a dry race. (boo!)

We have a very leisurely start time and are last race. I am told it has been some time since the PBIC lot have raced at Brands so I expect to see some keen observation of other races by the drivers trying to pick up a few tips.

I have copied the following link from the official newsletter as it seems the old noise abatement society types are at it again. As if we aren’t quiet enough already?

I have been told that Mallory and Brands are two tracks facing difficulties in this area so if you don’t want our racing to sound like a milk float derby take a few minutes to stick your name on the petition. http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/livewithit/

Also for all of you who missed out on the exciting Peter Best video featuring Simon Hutchinson & Dan Ludlow, well it’s back on YouTube again, this link will take you straight to it, but be quick before it gets banned again! Dan-v-Simon.

That’s all for now, see you at Paddock Hill bend!

WOW!!!

What a cracking weekend of racing was had by all in the PBIC at Cadwell!

With a monsoon at the start of the day the meeting looked in doubt but after a very leisurely practice session behind the pace car things started to brighten up resulting in a dry track for the double-header.

Some say it was all down to Jim Walpole’s lucky ‘Murray Walker flat cap’ which allowed the gods of weather to look down on us and smile. I of course was hoping for the monsoon to continue but so much for that!

Nevertheless, I managed to qualify in my highest position of the season for race one in fifth place on the grid. I am grateful to Dave Brooke for suggesting that we were gridded up in points order for the year and the cheque is in the post.

In fact Dave Brooke was lucky to be able to race at all this weekend. He spent most of his time trying to convince the marshals that he really was an entrant in the PBIC and not one of the bikers left over from the day before.

Alan Jones in car 45 the arrive & drive specialist, had shelled out a fiver for a new go faster paint job. Despite this, Colman, as his car is now affectionately known was unable to cut the mustard this weekend and would benefit from a dose of salts it seems. I understand the only thing tuned in his car was the radio.

Race 3
So as we lined up for the first race of the weekend I had my first experience of being able to see the start lights without the need for my trusty binoculars. The red lights went on and determined to make a good start I set my revs (yes higher than before) and waited ….lights off and I was immediately passed by half the field by the first corner…bloody hell!

How do they start so quick?

I made the best of it all the while expecting to see Mr Bergonzi and a few others bearing down on me in my rear view mirror.

I had a great tussle with car 18 Simon Tinkler, car 2 John Bussey (who later informed me that his car does not have a blower on it) and car 51 Kevin Stibbards who was driving the widest MGF in the West!

Brooke Junior meanwhile managed to keep ahead of me in his Metro GTi (car 44) and all hope I had of passing him was lost when my throttle stuck open. This was great for the straights but made the corners a bit tricky!

The throttle decided to play ball and I finally got past car 51 and managed to hold car 18 at bay in a very lively but clean race.

Lurking in the scrutineering bay was eagle eyed Dallas, our technical scrutineer. He weighed every car and I managed to squeak in with just one kilo to spare. I understand that a few others had been a little over zealous in their weight reductions.

Race 10
Our second race of the day was well into the afternoon allowing me to repair my throttle cable (or so I thought).

Our race 1 positions were to be our grid positions and I was back down to 10th. I think my start this time round was a little better as I don’t recall losing too many places although I did take time to sample the grass on a few corners.

Once again car 18 and car 44 were my main rivals although I did catch a few glimpses of car 9 from time to time.

I had the bit between my teeth and somehow managed to out brake (myself) Alan Brooke and get past him in a death defying move at Mansfield, only to throw it all away at the foot of the mountain when the damn throttle stuck open again and I had to hit the kill switch.

This also allowed Simon Tinkler to get past but all was not lost as he made an uncharacteristic error and spun at the Gooseneck, definitely a 5.9 on the scorecard there.

My usual battle with car 13 was not to be had at this meeting as Mr B was baulked by the rest of the pack. (Can I call the other drivers a pack…?)

In the end I managed a 4th in class for race 1 and 5th for race 2. Nothing to write home about position wise but the racing was excellent!

For all the lap times and results breakdown follow this link - RESULTS

Footnote
I would like to thank the Classic Bikers who threw a magnificent party on Saturday night with a rocking live band…really good fun.

Following the popularity of the Cluedo game in the last report, this time round I have gone for a “Spot the difference Game”. All will be revealed if you go to the latest photo album. Thanks for some great shots provided by Pete Burchill’s Loony Team.

Back to the garage now to rip out the throttle cable linkage etc, etc.

See you all at Brands!

Pre - Race Report – Cadwell Park August 2008

The long summer break is nearly over and for the Peter Besters the race is on once more.

As we head off for the tricky Cadwell Circuit I am told we can expect a cloudy day with drizzle to light showers likely around race time…should be fun!

We have a healthy grid of around 26 cars with a couple of newcomers (new to me at any rate) entered in car 34 class B in their MGB Roadster. Interestingly this runs in 1950cc form when driven by Roland Gray and 1900cc when driven by Phillip Simpson…Kwik fit eat your heart out.

In Class C it’s thumbs up for the return of Simon Hutchinson in car 43 or the regenmeister as he now wishes to be known.

The official web site has been suffering a few problems lately with the total loss of service for a few days this week. Apparently it was nothing to do with the long-awaited posting of the Silverstone Race Report; in fact I have it on good authority that hackers are to blame.

A source who wishes to remain anonymous has suggested that a certain driver was very disgruntled to find his championship winning photo (am I giving too much away here?) had been unceremoniously removed from the official site homepage and replaced by an archive shot of car 11.

Strangely car 11 is driven by the webmaster…how spooky is that? I have checked the website today and sure enough the photo of car 11 has mysteriously vanished…how bizarre!***(since I wrote this I have noticed the site has been un-hacked & the photo of car 11 is back!!)***

A new feature for this month’s update is the addition of a game for all the family…namely Cluedo.

A crime has been committed in the Peter Best Challenge and it’s up to you to solve it…so in time honoured Cluedo fashion, here are your clues.

1. Location: committed in the spray booth.
2. Weapon: a loaded (with paint) gun
3. Suspect: Colonel Mustard

That’s your lot folks, all will be revealed at Cadwell!!

Will sign off now but just time to remind you to meet around the boot of car 13 on Saturday evening for a cool alcohol free lager!

Cheers!

Summer Special July 2008 (Have you seen Dave?)

As I while away the hazy summer evenings, baling the water out of the garage, my thoughts turn to the Peter Best Challenge. I begin to wonder what has happened to the “web-master” on the official site. Is the series still running? Will I win the lottery? Will my grey hair ever turn black again?

Indeed the official web is more of a cobweb it seems. Where is the newsletter I hear you ask, the race report, even the decisions of the recent committee meeting….where has everyone gone?

So concerned was I that I placed a missing persons report and enlisted the help of a firm of private detectives in order to track down V8 Dave.

So far indications are that he has taken too much interest in his other role as Chairman Elect for the Campaign for Real Ale. Rumours have it that he is secretly brewing up an Ale to rival the MG favourite, Old Speckled Hen. He is still in the testing (or tasting stage) and this has had an adverse effect on his ability to type.

Please report any sightings of V8 Dave to me so we can guide him back to his keyboard.

The lack of any MG Action drove me to seek new goals. After lengthy negotiations I am pleased to announce that the Jonesey-Racing Team* will be participating in the forthcoming Land Speed Trials in Bonneville USA.

Inspiration came from a recent MGCC Race when John Bussey did his famous impression of “Puffing Billy” with his trademark boil up on his TC.

Why not enter a steam powered car? After all I have been steamed on several occasions before…must have been all that Speckled Hen perhaps?

OK, it’s only the logo that will be there but during the few quiet weeks before the next race why not have a look at the efforts of the steam car chaps, click HERE to go to their web. In fact land speed record attempts and MG’s have a lot in common. Another interesting link via the MGOC click HERE & HERE.

When I’m not looking at the progress of the Steam Car I have been reluctantly pottering with the Trusty B before the next race.

An observant fellow racer (Thanks Team Neaves) spotted that my front wheels were pointing in different directions after the last race at Silverstone, and if truth be known they have probably been like this for a while. I am told that setting the wheels like this is unlikely to help my race results so I decided to check things out.

I now await delivery of a new steering rack to replace the original worn out one. Let’s hope this has a positive effect on my cornering antics.

On another note, if you have managed to avoid splashing out any cash on your cars this month due to the break in racing, why not get your entry form off to Castle Combe nice and early?

OK race fans, I think I have wound up enough people for one report so I will sign off now.

I will post a pre-Cadwell report shortly before that race and who knows we might even have seen the official Silverstone Report by then!!

And finally…… I notice that current champ James Walpole or Jay Dubyah as we all know him, has undergone yet another name change. According to the August edition of MG Enthusiast magazine he is now to be known as Jim Walpole.

Race Report Silverstone June 2008

Many thanks to those of you who have sent in photos of the meeting, although I have to say the latest album in the gallery looks more like the results of a destruction derby, anyhow on with the report!

Practice.

Although there was a normal practice before the race some of you couldn’t resist having a play on Friday could you…and what happened? That’s right car 13 (unlucky for some) Pete Burchill realised that his generous offer to buy drinks at the bar on Saturday night could prove too expensive (especially at Silverstone prices) so he took evasive action and smashed up his car instead. This may still prove to work out cheaper in the end as we do have some very thirsty drivers I must say.

Unfortunately Burchill set a bit of a precedent and a casualty of the Sunday practice was car 7 Blaine Neaves.

Remarkably, both drivers managed to get the cars repaired and took part in the race. This is more than I can say for my brother Alan car 45. I understand that the damage has proved a little more severe than originally thought but he hopes to bring the estate out for Cadwell, although it is a bit shorter than when he first got it.

I am pleased to report the web site predictions proved correct and not only was Lew Bergonzi back, (car 9) but also Jeremy Rogers in car 99 sporting his trade mark Teflon race suit.

I noticed car 54 Sam Polley had acquired a new go-faster stripe and it seemed to be working as he qualified bang in midfield at 20. But the shock of the weekend was Mr Delmonte in the clockwork orange. Yes Paul Rayment in car 21 blew everyone away in class A and took pole.

The Race.

Sadly, (for me) the weather was glorious and I found myself well down the grid feeling sorry for myself. (I mean feeling pleased for the excellent performances put in by the other drivers).

As I looked round the corner I could just about see the lights they were so far away. In truth it was only what I expected as what with my lack of power and poor driving skills it was pretty inevitable.

In my mirror I think I saw car 54 take to the grass as we formed up, and I can only presume he suffered some terminal problem as I never saw him again.

More gremlins struck car 18 Simon Tinkler, who having qualified well, developed a fire in the engine bay and was unable to race on. The warm weather looked to have had a similar effect on car 57 John Edison Moon’s Frogeye which was smoking heavily at the start and retired after 3 laps.

For my part I had hoped to make up some places off the start and was in with a chance when on lap 1 there was contact between what looked to be Mr Delmonte and the blue Loony car. Not only did this slow them up, but I virtually came to a standstill as car 21 exited the track on the infield, forcing me to stop and watch the rest of the cars pass me by on my nearside.

Nevertheless this did not stop me making a general nuisance of myself with Pete Burchill (13) as we swapped places repeatedly, although the cheers from his supporters camped on the back straight were so loud I could hear them above the squealing of my tyres.

I also saw some glimpses of John Wreghitt (5) but he certainly had the legs on me this time!

The only other action I can report other than me over cooking it at Becketts and taking to the grass in time honoured fashion, was the sight of Alan Brooke in car 44 performing a tidy pirouette in the same location on the last lap.

I guess we’ll both be dropping this race then Alan?

So we all live to race another day…bit of a breather before Cadwell, just time to try & sort out that understeer!

And finally…

Just to mention that not only do the MGCC provide a very good hospitality tent throughout the meeting but this is also where the presentations are done roughly 30 minutes after the race. I am surprised at how few people turn up for their trophies and to congratulate the winning drivers….

Also we send our sincere best wishes to Peter Andrews (car 18) who was unable to beat me at Silverstone this weekend as he was hospitalised. Get well soon Peter, I really mean that as Simon who shares your car is getting far too quick!!

Results Class A

1st James Walpole car 15

2nd Shane Terry car 28

3rd Lew Bergonzi car 9

See you all at Cadwell.

Pre - Race Report Silverstone June 2008

Greetings pre-race fans!

Its’ the BIG ONE!! Silverstone 2008.

A massive entry has been received once again and no surprises for regular readers of this website, Lew Bergonzi is back. (See Mallory Report).

Another possible return is Jeremy Rogers of Surrey Sports & Classics. He tends to favour a post-closing date entry to keep everyone guessing and I understand it will all depend on how busy he is at his retail stand as to whether he races or not!

On a slightly less exciting note our intrepid reporter James Darby is returning, not to drive but to keep a close eye on proceedings. He will have his work cut out to beat the race report penned by Brooke minor last time round……minor ?….now where have I seen that before???

Alan Brooke has repaired the holes in the Metro floor and is looking to return to the points this time out – not if I can help it! (But sadly I probably won’t be able to help it)

Following the shock crash at Oulton, my brother Alan assures me the Montego will be repaired, but he has decided to test it out in the Saturday endurance race first. Unfortunately I am sharing the drive so it will probably end in tears. (Or end in the tyres).

With a massive grid it looks like being a fantastic weekend, so make sure you are there!

And finally….another first for the official PBIC site. It seems following publication of the driver’s photos the site will now be required to carry a parental guidance warning, apparently the shots are so frightening they can only be viewed by over 18s!

And finally 2… Don’t forget the generous offer from Peter Burchill to buy all the drivers a beer on Saturday night to celebrate his success last time out. Cheers!

Practice

Greetings race fans!

What a weekend we had at Oulton!!

I will keep the practice report to a minimum as there is so much to tell about the race.

The British Summer returned to Oulton for the Peter Best Practice with a constant fine drizzle just sufficient to create a glistening surface on the track.

I was very disappointed with my qualifying time and found the track to be slippy as I tried out my usual variety of racing lines.

On return to the paddock I discovered my rear nearside wheel was covered in differential fluid, it looked as though a hub gasket had failed.

At this point I must offer my thanks to Jay Dubyah, Dave Brooke, Peter & Richard (car 18) for their help, advice and provision of spares to get the car fixed.

I am especially indebted to Doctor Blaine Neaves for diagnosing the problem and his expert wielding of a lump hammer in order to fix it!!!

I believe the actual fault was that the bearing had decided to make a bid for freedom but this was soon halted by the surgical intervention of Dr. Neaves.

It speaks volumes of the series when a competitor suffers a problem; it’s all hands to the pump from the other drivers to get you out for the race.

Many thanks.

The Race

The weather began to look decidedly iffy as our race approached. The talk was all of last minute tyre changes and had anyone seen James Darby, our intrepid driver turned journalist.

Also missing from the grid was Alan Brooke who had difficulty throwing off a particularly heavy duvet and opted to spectate instead.

I was particularly concerned that my brother was behind me in his Montego and had expressed some concerns about stopping distances, but more of that later.

The Lunar Racing Team was out in force (or should I say let the force be with you) and according to the commentator had fielded a massive entry of three cars. It later became apparent that John MOON (57) was in fact an independent entry.

Anyway, back to the race, we were held for a long time on the grid while the debris from the preceding race was cleared.

Red lights on….off….. Then all hell broke loose!

The pack descended on the first corner as one, but the combination of cold tyres and the drizzle seemed to catch out some of the drivers. As I turned the corner I was greeted by the blue Loony car and what I think was the yellow Midget of Robert Beasley (let me know if I’m wrong) hurtling towards me.

Evasive action resulted in me resorting to grass tracking at an earlier stage than usual and I managed to get through the melee unscathed.

Unfortunately as the race progressed, after a couple of failed attempts Simon Hutchinson made contact with the Armco in Deer Leep.

I said in my pre-race report that the race was in the lap of the Gods and they certainly seemed to look favourably on my underpowered car. Yes, the rain began to fall and the leaders began to slow down.

So much so that I was able to discard my long vision binoculars as I could see Jay Dubyah and Peter Andrews unaided! (This is a first).

The rain got heavier and I began to make up some places.

I got past John Binczyk (whose name I never type correctly) who had blasted past me at Mallory in the previous race.

John Wreghitt (5) was making the most of the rain and I had to pull out all the stops to get past him as he was storming along (Weather related pun there folks!)

The track had turned into a veritable ice-rink and cars were spinning around all over the place.

Peter Andrews tormented me on the last lap by wagging the tail of his yellow B along The Avenue allowing me to close up on him until he hit the loud pedal and zoomed off again.

The race was all but over when I spotted that the Lunar Racing car of Peter Burchill was on a similar orbit to me (here we go). You could say he was a man on a (space) mission. The atmosphere was electric and he seemed to fire a booster and blasted-off past me on the approach to Lodge. He spotted a deep-space and rocketed past me to take 7th overall. There was no earthly thing I could do about it. Oulton, we have a problem!

The chequered flag waved and the race was over…or was it? On the slowing down lap at the last corner I was greeted with frantic waved yellow flags.

Oulton was to take two more casualties in the forms of car 77 Margaret Farquhar-Rigg and oh dear, my brother Alan car 45 the Montego. It seems Margaret had made a last ditch overtaking manoeuvre but hit a pool of standing water and the MGF parted company with the track.

Alan taking avoiding action discovered his braking distance was longer after all and gave the Montego a bloody nose as it discovered the Oulton Armco.

I am pleased to say that although pride and a bit of panel damage occurred during the race the drivers only suffered minor injuries and will be back to race again another day.

Results:

1st Dave Brooke (11)
2nd Barry Holmes (37)
3rd Doctor Neaves (7)

Class A (the one that really matters!)

1st Jay Dubyah (1 or 15 whichever suits)
2nd Peter full power Andrews (18)
3rd JONESEY

Roll on Silverstone. I have already started to do my rain dance….remember last year!!!

Greetings pre-race fans!

We are all gearing up for the next Peter Best bash at Oulton on Saturday the 17th of May.

The weather forecast is: Mostly Cloudy, highs of 16’C lows of 9’C. 20% chance of rain.

To date we have a grid of 24 entries and have narrowly avoided a repeat of the Donington debacle where the Peter Best competitors were scattered amongst alternative races.

Yes I am pleased to report we have our OWN race!

On the plus side this means that last year’s Champ JW is no longer a reserve and will now be able to race. On the down side this means that I will need my long range binoculars to catch a glimpse of him as he disappears in the distance.

It will be interesting to see if the spate of unreliability problems has been resolved for the following drivers.

Car 12 Paul Eales only managed a handful of laps at Mallory but I did not find out the cause of the problem, let’s hope he has!
Peter Andrews / Simon Tinkler’s car 18 was suffering from overheating and to combat this they may need to detune the car. I wholeheartedly support this course of action!
And of course now JW is no longer a reserve he will have to deal with that pesky speck of dust that plagued him during the previous race.

There has been an outbreak of fraternal racing in the PBIC with two sets of brothers competing. First we have the Brookes and then we have the Brothers Grimm, namely myself and my brother Alan in the Montego Recreational Vehicle car 45.
My brother did far better then he should have done (in my opinion) at Mallory and I can only hope that his relaxed attitude to car preparation (i.e. he refuses to do it) will take its toll at Oulton. No doubt the tyres will be flat again at any rate.

Nevertheless Oulton has a reputation for being a bit of a car breaking track, and as we are fortunate enough to be racing on the full circuit the results are in the lap of the Gods…or more accurately the lap of Oulton!

Be there or miss out!

Mallory Park 27th April 2008

Greetings race fans!

Despite the weather forecast from a certain website, the sun shone gloriously on the Peter Besters and the rain held off until after the race! Testimony to this fact was the appearance of James Darby without his trademark hat as he sauntered around the pits casting a knowing eye over any engine that was on view.

Following the first race of the season it was good to get back to a good sized grid all together again without the incursion of any other competitors.

Practice was a relatively painless affair despite the spin of Alan (I’m not that quick) Brooke and a slight overheating problem for Simon Tinkler in car 18 there was little to report.

There followed the usual spate of excuses, Blaine Neaves: steering column fell off, Alan (INTF) Brooke flat spotted tyre, S. Tinkler overheating car. JW (15) speck of dust on offside wing…

A major bid was made for “Buffoon of the Series” by none other than my idiot brother Alan. Sadly I can no longer conceal that it is he who has purchased the TWR prepared Montego Station Wagon (45) with a view to taking up as much track space as possible for his money.

Deciding to send in his entry at the eleventh hour he gave no thought to how the car would actually be transported to the track, instead he swanned off to watch Chelsea boot a ball about leaving his hard pressed brother and many others to try and resolve his transport issues for him.

He then turned up late at the track on race day and borrowed both a trailer and a tow car and merrily bimbled off to get his car from a nearby lockup.

Much to the consternation of the Aston Martin Owners he dained to qualify out of session considerably lowering the tone of proceedings.

It later transpired that his car had no water and little fuel and two flat tyres, but still turned in a respectable one minute lap time. There is no justice in this world!

The Race

Having listened to the various excuses and tales of woe from several drivers about the problems they were having with their cars I realised as soon as the race began that miraculously all their problems had been resolved during the lunch break, or a bit of sand bagging had occurred.

A good start was made by all and a clean race ensued. Paul Rayment (21) wound up his clockwork Orange Roadster and gave it some juice. He zapped past me round Gerards having resolved his (alleged) misfire problem and pipped me at the finish line to take 3rd in class A and squashing me into 4th position. (That’s enough of the orange jokes for one report.)

I enjoyed a good tussle with (13) the Loony Racing car driven by Peter Burchill as we swapped places at various points around the track. The ZS was quick in a straight line but my trusty B just had the edge in the corners.

John Binczyk (71) in his gleaming MGF played a tactical game seeing my unpredictable racing lines and chose his moment to pass me carefully before scampering off into the distance. (A theme developing here I think).

Simon Tinkler’s overheating problem restricted his performance as he nursed the car round, but then if you go for 15:1 compression what can you expect? (Sorry Peter!).

JW with his usual alacrity turned in a faultless race and consistently lapped in the 57 second mark to stroll to an easy class A victory in his 14th year in the championship. Is there anyone out there who can stop him???

It was good to see the surprise appearance of Dale the scrutineer at the meeting. Apparently he was the cause of several drivers attending the medical centre with heart palpitations.

As many of us know Dale puts in an awful lot of time scrutineering several other championships and has been looking after this series in all its various guises for more years than anyone can remember.

The good news is son of Dale is in training to take on some of the workload and it is hoped that soon he will be able to attend every meeting of the PBIC. Bookings at the scales are expected to increase tenfold!!!

Footnote

I have spent two years getting my MGB to this level and my brother buys a clapped out Montego for next to nothing and turns in lap times a few hundredth of a second less than me……where did I go wrong…. ?

Sadly my hope of moving up the grid is soon to be dashed as I understand Lew (lap record holder) Bergonzi is rebuilding his engine and will be racing later this year.

Eyes down for a full house at Oulton Park!

Pre - Race Report – Mallory Park April 2008

The weather forecast for Mallory is 96% cloud cover, rain of 3.mm (which is more than my tyre tread) and 10mph winds.

James Darby ever ready to battle the elements has advised he will not be wearing his trademark Cossack hat for this meeting, but will favour the ever popular plastic rain hat instead.

Mystery still surrounds the start – line breakdown of James Walpole’s car. James, or Jay Dubyah, as he prefers to be known, remained tight lipped regarding the incident, although rumours are circulating that the cause may have been either mechanical or electrical. Not much gets past me, except on the track of course.

Class A is fielding a strong grid including the return of Paul Eales making a guest appearance.

Alan (I’m not that fast) Brooke will be looking to capitalise on his class win in race one, but according to the Official PBIC Newsletter he will be lucky to repeat this….hmm we shall have to wait and see.

Sadly it seems the Montego expertly piloted by Dan Ludlow will not be making an appearance at Mallory, as it is needed for the”Sunday Big Shop” instead.

***Stop Press*** I have been informed that the Sunday Big Shop has been cancelled and the Montego is set to make an appearance after all…unfortunately Mr Ludlow will not be behind the wheel on this occasion…so expect a driving Miss Daisy Special instead!!

Dave Brown (car27) will be looking to avoid the black flag this time round and put in a solid performance. He has decided to replace his 7 year old set of tyres with an even older set following his theory that “the older they are the better they are”. Thanks for that Dave.

Rumours are circulating that one of the modified cars will feature a new NASCAR type suspension set up, especially designed to deal with Gerards Bend. I am grateful for the scoop but I will respect the request for anonymity as promised.

With the first race gremlins out of the way the season proper starts now.

Tally ho!
