Mallory 2010.
We are just a week away from our next race where we are the guests of the Morgan Sports Car Club at Mallory.
An interesting if somewhat smaller entry list for this meeting as there are many regulars missing. What has happened to all the one-race wonders that appeared at Silverstone?
Not only that, where are Cripps and his V8 pals?… same goes for the Grey Pig, and perhaps Mallory did not a-peel to the Clockwork Orange after his last outing at Silverstone…or is it just that this was not on the automatic entry and there will be a list of late entries when we get there?
At present we have a field of 21 cars ready to do battle on the little Mallory Circuit. Last year I was relegated to spectator when the head gasket blew…I hope for a better visit this time out.
Although Class A has only 6 entrants, sadly they are all likely to be very close together and in front of me!
Nevertheless I have been liberally patching up the trusty B with plastic padding and Halfords white paint, although it is looking very second-hand after the Silverstone outing. I now have a monthly delivery of headlamps and front indicator lenses much to the delight of my local MG stockist.
Although Mallory is the friendly circuit I seem to remember that a bit of paint got swapped around last time out, fingers crossed for a clean race please!!!
Class B is double the size of most of the others and the ranks are swelled by one of the Wheelers in car 31. Dave Brown is shown out in a Sprite, is this the same Dave Brown of ZT and MGF fame?
Class C sees the return of Neaves Senior determined not to be out done by youngster Ollie. There is a new entrant in the shape of Mark Ellis in his twin-cam MGA which should really put the cat amongst the pigeons…this quick car is well known in other series.
At least John Binczyk is assured of a good result as he only has to finish the race to win Class F, not much of a result though as he is the only entrant!
Just to finish off then, thanks to Team Tripod for this photo showing James Darby getting the prize for “Best Moonwalk” at the recent Michael Jackson Tribute at Silverstone!

Love it.

Has any one received the final instructions for Mallory yet?
Or is just me that they don’t want there?
” Not only that, where are Cripps and his V8 pals?……… or is it just that this was not on the automatic entry and there will be a list of late entries when we get there?”
correct……
John, do you really want me to answer that?
Think they must have sent them out in two batches, I am on the entry list but have not received my finals and tickets etc, although Blaine has and we live at the same address!
See you all there!
Ollie
Just for the few that might be remotely interested.
The Grey Pig is rather unwell!
Silverstone resulted in a fractured clutch plate (9 races old - Last one fell apart at Mallory last year). This leading to many tunes on the gearbox.
So this leading to futher investigations whilst the engine is out, into the metal in the oil and the smoke on start up.
So that will be 4 knackered bores and 3 valve guides.
Also the horrific misfire on the 2nd start has been traced to the (new this year) chain tensioner that decided to shed its plastic pad. This resulting eventually in the now considerably shorter tensioner finally making metal on metal contact with the new (5 races) Kent Cams timing chain.
Looks like an expensive August ahead!
Might see you at Mallory - Haven’t watched a PBIC race for years!!!!! *#%* it!
I trust you all enclosed the self addressed/stamped envelopes…tight gits. Nice to see Dave heed my ramblings and get the Sprite back out. I will have half the garage with me so we should be able to keep her going. I’ve started my prep already! a whole 5 days earlier than for the last races, although I still haven’t been arsed to get the car off the trailer. One more moan, why why why is my fave Cadwell on the weekend the kids go back to school again? Come on MGCC have a heart or have they shares in Relate! Guess I’ll be missing that one
The Grey Pig and Clockwork Orange will not be out to play as the Grey Pig is having a much needed engine rebuild, the innards of said engine could be removed using a dust pan and brush rather than spanners, the Cockwork Orange needs rear tyres, dampers and some body work issues to attend to.
Good luck all and have a great race.

I wonder if the secretary of the meeting has booked Mallory yet?
I think he must work along the lines of ‘don’t do to day what you can put off until tomorrow’

Re Cadders, this is a big pain for me over the two days as I now need to arrange both the Friday & the Monday off - may just do the Saturday, see how it pans out.
PS I did’nt edit Wilson’s comment although “Cock-work Orange” does sound right for some reason….!
John, final instructions for Mallory:- turn right, turn right then turn right. Repeat 18 times and yawn whenever necessary. Have fun!
See you all there sat evening,
Thanks for the offer of the spares well probably need them simon,
Have you got a spare air filter for a pair of split 45 webbers i could borrow as i might need one.
Many thanks if so.
Dave
Legs.. if this is some misconceived plan to take last spot in group A think again, Daisy can sit out just as many races as you! 2010 record to date
1 finish, 1 DNF, 4DNS, 2 Engines, 2 windscreens, 2 rads, 2 headlights 2 water pumps, total race time to date 16 minutes.
Still have not received my tickets either, any ideas?

How about a discrete phone call to the secretary of the meeting at about 12:00 tonight? Followed by the next one at 12:30 & so on.
Perhaps a first class stamp next time..?
So Junior has finally popped up on radar. Not using mechanical problems with the hippy hearse as a smoke screen for racing that Fiat are you?
Or have you been buying your spare parts from the same quality emporium as me!
Postman just been & still nothing
I think it’s time to cancel the cheque & not bother
I did send an A5 envelope & first class stamp, if they are that desperate they can steam the stamp off & use it again.
Just checked with the bank & the buggers cashed the cheque on the 5/7/10 two days before the closing date.
Just goes to show that the MGCC & Steve Carr are lot better at organising race meetings than some of the other clubs.
Dear Mr Angry,
Why don’t you call the secretary of the meeting 07802 714688, or better still the Morgan Competition Secretary Tony Oliver
Tel/Fax: 01429 880340.
I have sent an email to incompetent Secretary Tony Oliver

ARRGGGH!
I have spoken to the organiser today who has told me that all the tickets and final were sent in one batch last friday, I still have not got mine, but he said to call him on friday if we have still not got them and he will leave us tickets and paddock passes on the gate. His number is 08453284314 if you want to call and have a moan too.
Ollie
Not angry at all, I just had a nice bacon sandwich.
Tony’s reply was ‘you do have an entry and you should have received finals and tickets last Saturday. If nothing shows by Friday give me a shout and I will leave them on the gate’
I think the introduction of bacon sandwiches to the discussions between BA & Unite (or is that Ubite) could work wonders.
