Greetings Race Fans.
Once again romance is in the air as we all look forward to spending time with our true-loves.
That’s right I’m talking about our beloved MG’s!
I shall be treating mine to some “Flowers” naturally, (4.4% ABV) and possibly a rub down with the Sporting Life if all goes well.
There has been some banter following last months report and it seems the long haired one is short of material for the official site.
He is asking for drivers to send him their “profiles” so he can add them to the site plus any other interesting material.
(Although I notice my profile hasn’t been published Dave….nor yours for that matter)
If the site is to be updated on a regular basis as promised then if Dave has plenty of material to choose from this must be of help. Unlike me he cannot just make it up as he goes along. (Apparently it’s the spell-checking that takes the most time)
It has also been said that because the entries for Donington have been a little slow off the mark, this is the reason why our race has been amalgamated (at present) so don’t delay, send your entry in now.
Hopefully Steve Carr will soon add the confirmed entry list to the MGCC site (as he did during 2008) so we can see who the slackers are!
In other news I understand major investment has been made in the Miss Daisy Montego. Jones junior has forked out £3 on a set of brake pads from Ebay.
I would have thought slowing the car down was the last thing he’d want to do.
The Blaine boys are clogging up the internet with photos of their mirror image Roadsters, which is all very well but when are they going to be ready? The half price race entry will be just a distant memory at the rate they are going!
Incidentally, it was good to see a true professional in action during my recent trip to the NEC. That’s right, I’m talking about “Blagger Burchill”.
No manufacturer was spared as he “smooth-talked” them into donating various bits for his car with his well worn “it’s all for the kids” patter.
If this didn’t work he fell back on his “as driven by Anthony Reid” line.
Good work!!
With the credit crunch biting some of the richer drivers have been e-mailing me asking for investment advice.
Well I have always said “no question too difficult”.
Having given it some thought, I’d say the best way to invest your surplus cash this year (if only!) would be to buy shares in Lead. If my suspicions are correct there could be a lot of extra ballast being dished out after race 1!!!!
Ok, that’s all for now, get back to your garages and chip out your MG’s…and get those entries off.
Jonesey

because you’re worth it
It is after all the thought that counts.
Thankfully my wife does not read this web site!
See you at Donington
Pete
I would just like to point out that I also paid £4 to have the brake pads delivered and received negative feed back. All in all this has been a very expensive experience and we will not be rushing into any purchases without weighing up the true costs.
Wise words…I think the saying is: “How do you make a small fortune in motor racing?”
Good report mate as ever, from my blagging skills should be able to get good discounts on tryes and brakes if anyone interested Pete
Rumour has it there is a VERY interesting driver profile being added to the Mugshots on the official PBIC site…
Thanks for the February article Jonesey, I’d have forgotten about Valentines Day otherwise. Can you please do an article mid-March entitled Wife’s Birthday so I don’t forget that either.
I hear car 13’s driver is soon going to get brainwashed into driving slower….
I would advise against the purchase of shares in BLM (www.britishlead.co.uk). I don’t have the photo available here and now but there are several docksides in the UK piled high with steel the Chinese and Indian want paying to take away!
Well, there seems to be a lot of space on the grid at Donington. I can see why the Club has mixed the grids if we can only manage to field 15 cars…where is everyone??
I would have entered if my car was going to be ready!
Group C looks like its going to be especially interesting… at least for those driving the V8s
There are still several weeks left…it’s not too late to enter!
From what I gather, there are still at least another 7 people in group C that are doing Donny but have yet to enter.
If mine and Dan’s cars where ready there would be about 13 people in group C. Wey-Hey!!!
but of course they are not ready are they….
erm no, but neither is yours
I’m sure there will be at least one competing representative from Team Neaves at Donington
Jonesey,
Actually mate your profile has been rather lonely on the official website for some days, but obviously no one looks since nobody complained about the broken menus in the gallerys!
Additional content welcome and watch out for our profile extractor who will soon have your contact details…..
Woooo….
Or should that be Who!
Just read the page and the bearded one has posted at 10:31 pm while my humble clock says its still only 9:35.
should I hide behind the sofa?
Dave
The comments are becoming more surreal each month I feel…let this be a warning to you all…..too much home brew and you start hiding behind the sofa!
Profile extractor, ummm thats me
I think.
Once I have everybodies email address they will be open to abuse for details, I will also bring camera to Donington and attempt to get some pictures or at least unleash a few students with the task.
So who has entered?
Iam now in full training for the season ahead leaving pub before last orders so should help on weight reduction.
See you in a few weeks
Pete
Thanks for the warning, I will immediately change my email address!
The current entries can be viewed following this link:
Current entries
Funny that just had a look at the entry list, nearly half a grid full.
Mental note dont follow the montego as last year gets Mr Gammons very cross. Hopefully we can get a few more in, the blue now black Lunar ZS will be entering in class C in next few days as will another ZS of Ewart Kitson and Mr Ludlow has threatend to get the car out for Donnington.
Would be nice to have our own race.
Pete
Does this mean Ewart’s ZS will be having a VHPD lump in it?
Ollie
All,
I notice that the Equipe guys have volenteered to run first at Donnington !
A bit longer to rest sore heads from the night before, or a bit longer in bed for us locals :o)
James
Hopefully the cars will have defrosted by then….I remember the snow last year!
Shamless Advert:
Grand Prix Race Wear Nomex III race suit in Green - Size 48 Medium
To be fair it does fit large easily
Cost new was over £400
For sale due to pressure from the misses to final buy a XL
suit rather than lubing myself to fit. £125 ono
“Does this mean Ewart’s ZS will be having a VHPD lump in it?”
No its a stock bottom end with ported head 270 cams and throttle bodies it was sandbags old engine putting out 175 on rollers but with a better exhaust manifold with bigger primaries should see a few more horses.
Peter
I do not think the thought of Blagger Burchill oiling himself up before donning his race suit is a major selling point but who knows?
Even more important some of you may have heard that Croft Circuit is under threat…I know we have never raced there (unless the archives know better) but if you feel inclined to try & stop the rot follow the link below to add your name to the petition…the “powers that be” will no doubt ignore it but it’s worth a try:
Save Croft
Had conformation that I am allowed torun my new MGF cup car in class C on formula R’s, so im hopefully going to be doing the full season this year.
Best get my license sorted asap!!
Looks like class C is going to be good fun!!
….and jonsey you will be pleased to know the new F has a very orange hardtop!!
The Man from Delmonte is back!!!
I beleive we raced at croft in 2000!
There you are…I knew our resident Mr Memory would soon put me right.
Having had a further look at the petition it actually does have a bearing on all other circuits too…worth considering if we want our hobby to continue. (Apparantly I am told it really is just a hobby!)
Could group C be the biggest group this year?
6 v8s
3 K series MGBs
MGF
2 or 3 VHPD Metros
2 ZS
at least 1 midget, maybe 2
AND 1 MGTB according to the entry list!
PS I think the last one is a typo…
Apparently…
Black cars denote an aggressive personality or someone who’s an outsider or rebel.
Silver cars indicate someone who’s cool, calm and slightly aloof.
Green cars can often be chosen by people with hysterical tendencies.
Yellow cars signify someone who is idealistic and novelty loving.
Blue cars are chosen by the more introspective, reflective and cautious driver.
Gray cars represent those who are calm, sober and dedicated to their work.
Red cars denote those who are full of zest, energy and drive and who think, move and talk quickly.
Pink cars are chosen by gentle, loving and affectionate drivers.
White cars represent status-seeking extrovert drivers.
Cream cars are the least likely to be involved in accidents and denote self-contained and controlled owners.
I think that covers most of us!
Who reckons it might apply to choice of firesuit colour too…?
I think the brothers Brooke have been sharing that home brew between them!
The only reason we went Blue/Silver was to fool the opposition!
Ollie
I am buggered then black car with red suit I new I should have kept the green romper suit…….
You don’t mean to tell me you have sold Lou Feringo’s suit then?
Its on ebay a sad day but I was faced with one of two choices stop going to the pub and go to gym or keep going to pub and buy a bigger suit. A new suit it was then….
What many people don’t realise is that in order to fund his racing Pete has been forced to sell his dining room table & his renowned art collection…and he has very small doors in his house!
Everything must go
It has occurred to me that a new picture of Pete will be needed for the Who’s Who gallery on the website, but horror of horrors we don’t have a picture of Pete to start with! Suggestions that this is deliberate to protect the younger surfers are malicious…..
He is probably waiting to show off his nice new race suit..
I had my picture taken with the car at Mallory as did everybody else but never got on the site……
Jonesey you internet stalking skills are quite alarming……
Be afraid…
Pete, as far as I am aware all pics taken at mallory were sent to the webmaster. Maybe yours was just to scary to show????
I still have your pic if you want it!
Ollie
Ollie if was from my good side then please send on to the Bearded one
Hey Jonesey, I hope you have a bleeper machine working on this web site in case the Bearded One starts posting on here in the same manner as he has been on the main club site!
Ahh yes I see what you mean, I am of course far too civilised to allow any of that type of language here, but I do echo his sentiments…it seems some drivers need a rocket up their a**e in order to get their entries in…
oops!
We’ve got 18 car’s so far.
The good news is, my car has been dusted and is ready to go.
The bad news is, that i’ve put a kilo on.
So it’s back to the weetabix diet and shaving off any surplus hair.
I am honoured!! The first posting from the former Champ!! I knew you would not be able to hold out for much longer!!!
Too much information re the hair in my view!!
It’s good clean fun though.
Just like racing.
I think the bearded one may have lost his subtlety when the annual shearing was done. Probably the effect of too much light on the scalp….
Jonesey, you could have use a motoring related alternative to the a word like maybe exhaust?
Ahh yes good thinking, just trying to work out the motoring related word you used on the forum…the closest I could think of was ballasts!
BA studs maybe? (Perhaps this thread is getting too screwy)
Excellent, 3 puns for the price of one!
I wonder if more effort is going into the polished wit than the cars….
Since it appears that the web literate mob have entered it could not have be bloggers.
And how do us outsiders insert smilies when we post here.
The site recognises smileys as text so if you want an ordinary smiley type : then - and ) & the site will recognise it or as you typed earlier but remove the brackets, as I have never polished my car I would have to agree with your first comment.
OK, how do I edit a previous post.
You ask me very nicely and I may amend it for you…
Could there by chance be any connection between the the site owners editing and the smilies that have actually appeared on my posts?
Who can say..?
4 reserves looks like a good race will be had on the 4th
Yep, roughly same amount of entries as last year, but a few new faces….what we need is the rest of the drivers to enter so we can fill the grid on our own!!! Lets just hope we don’t get the split start scenario!
(PS I hope you have removed the olive oil from your old overalls before the new owner takes delivery.)
If Pete had Olive Oil in his overalls then that explains why they looked a like snug - hopefully Popeye will not find out….
Happy new year to all!
I thought its was time to make a comment (or two) on this site. Firstly I would like to congratulate everyone, that even though 2009 is still young, the level of gibberish posted here seems undiminished. I think if we all try just a little harder we could set a new record on the gibberometer, before Donington!
I mean, whats all this about oiling up to put on overalls - Everyone knows tyre levers are best! Or failing that, there is the jump from the tow vehicle roof whilst two good friends hold the Nomex open (naked is optional - just watch the zip).
What is all this about the PBIC being amalgamated - have I got to get my finger out? Get my engine in? If only I’d NOT read the Haynes manual, apparently you don’t have to take the engine out to change the spark plugs - Doh!
Right I think thats enough random gibberish for now!
(PS The legs haven’t see daylight since Coombe - so watch out!!!!!)
I can’t believe it!! Another inaugral posting this time by Mr Silk Cut himself..what’s all this about new engines…you have your reputation to think of after all!
Hmm, Haynes manuals –
‘First disconnect the battery earth lead….’
They say this for everything, even replacing brake pads!
‘Assembly is the reverse of disassembly’ (or words to that effect).
This can’t be true, for example I never seem to need the hammer quite as much when putting something back together as I did when taking it apart. Also, how on earth do you round the corners back on to rusty nuts?
Wise words from the brass section..
Marlboro, its Marlboro…. Silk Cut could never kick start my lungs!!!!!!!
Who mentioned new engines? New spark plugs! not from eBay though - I’m right posh me! I shop in Halfords.
What’s all this about reputation???? Someone has to come last…..OK so it didn’t go my way at Snet, but I will avenge (beware Miss Daisy - last place will be mine).
PS. Don’t order anything from Grand Prix Racewear - they have apparently gone pop! I’m still waiting for new tow straps - Yes, read the Blue book you lot. Or go to the drivers meeting Dave did mention it!
I am now very worried….
Someone was listening at the drivers meeting, or worse taking notes.
Grand Prix Racewear’s demise was I thought general knowledge and also fact that the man behind Zip karts is relaunching the business should mean that DT don’t end up as a monopoly.
I was never much good at monopoly..
Go straight to jail and don’t pass go…
I think that’s how it goes!!
Happy new year every one.
SorrY,a little late just come out of hibernation for the new season.
I have a diffrent mgf for this year and believe it or not trying to prepare a car that has been on the road for raceing is neither quick or dare i say cheap,HOPE IT IS QUICK PLEASE.If their is a person with an abundunce of cash, then maybe they could let me have some? Then maybe someone like myself with a family and not a highly paid job just might get their entry,s in early before they get paid?We do try
Go straight to jail? – Sounds like you need to get yourself a motor layer…
er I mean motor lawyer
I know how the whole money thing feels, I could do with passing go and collecting £200!
I’ve just managed to sell my MGF so hopefully I may get the B out at some point this year!
First race is going to be a bit scary me thinks!
Ollie
Would anyone want to arrive and drive a maestro we have option on 3 of them from a rally school should be ready in 2009 season ish….
Ollie, I just hope you have a few spare tins of that Gas Board Blue Paint!
Will they be ready for Donnington Pete?
I can hear Alan in his crazy yellow hearse quaking in his boots!
Am I quaking in my boots?
Will we ever see Stan and Ollie on track?
Did Pete only have to sell his race suit following his Castle Combe experience with a real racing driver?
That was good lads… The Monopoly thread was really boosting the reading on the gibberometer….. And now you’ve started talking cars again!
Leave the crazy yellow hearse alone. I’m determined NOT to get passed it this year. Last place will be mine. I will be defeated!!!!! As you may have noticed, I haven’t even entered Donington yet, so Mr J is already ahead, HA!
Just what exactly is LOD smoking again??
Well with the prospect of 3 maestro’s hitting the track it seems the race for last place is hotting up!
that is until Stan & Ollie hit the track…
Ollie Neaves – ‘I’ve just managed to sell my MGF’
Dave Brown - ‘I have a new MGF for this year’
Are these two facts related in anyway?
By the way, it doesn’t matter how soon you put your entry in THE CLUB DON’T TAKE THE MONEY UNTIL THE CLOSING DATE, so there’s no excuse for not getting an entry in early!
No relation at all, unless Dave is into dressing up and goes by the name of Debbie at the weekends…….
The Maestros will be going to Bedford College during the season for a repaint and overhaul. They should be good for class A to keep the numbers up.
One of the ZS’s will not be out in the Peter Best this year, as it has acquired a new driver, she is funding the car in Britcar the car goes to press launch next week. So that is one less for class C.
Only a few weeks to go now time to get the cars back together find your license and head to Donington very soon
Pete
Why do I get the horrible premonition that Dave is now going to be saddled with a nickname…
He has enough nicknames already!
All sing along now:-
I can call you Debbie,
and Debbie when you call me
you can call me Al (#44)
hmmm, any requests for this years’ Xmas do I wonder?
No singing!
“I can call you Debbie,
and Debbie when you call me
you can call me Al (#44)”
Are these by any chance a set of lyrics which I am too young to of ever heard of?
and while you are looking them up (Try Paul Simon) you can find out who Stan & Ollie are!
If people must sing then can it be over the hills and far away……
Shirley that was Betty?
When is it going to made official? That this is the official site for PBC.
I think we need a new thread; my scrolling finger is getting sore.
John, thanks for the vote of appreciation for the site…I think Debbie will be running the official site as I am probably not to be trusted re the content! Sorry about the scrolling…lots of comments this month must be due to lack of racing…not long now though.
Was their some kind of link with ‘Debbie going to Dallas’ (Smith)?
Well that’s what some old fellow told me.
Can everyone stop being so bloody old!!!!!
Don’t worry, you and stan will grow into it!
In a yorkshire stylie - When I were young there were more old people about…
John - don’t go there
Looks like we are having our own race
Biggest grid at Donington
Now we all just need to get our cars ready
Pete
Do you mean yours isn’t! I’ve already been putting some miles on mine for shakedown testing after the closed season maintainance schedule (as in kicking the tyres - oh the joys of a standard car…)
So who else has yet to put the car back together then?
ME!!! Clutch has seized…so it will be engine out this weekend….well it is an MG after all!..perhaps I should have started it a little sooner…
Well done lads! I’ve been quietly monitoring the postings. The whole ‘call me Al’ ‘Stan N Ollie’ thing has boosted the Gibberometer reading to new levels…… No wonder the PBC has the largest grid!
Just incase you’re interested (which I guess your not…. sniff (violin music)). I have set Sunday (15th) evening as the make or break point for entering Donington! If my engine isn’t complete and running by then, someone else will have to be last!!!!
Mr. P, I can tell you are feeling left out, but you needn’t worry, I have plenty of disparaging comments saved up for you but I will use them to pad out the Pre-Donington report which I expect to post the week before the meeting.
Surely the make or break point is the friday night before the race?
If you speak to steve carr he will give you a full refund if you cancel before the thursday before the race!
Ollie
Legs,
Don’t give up this early.
That nice Mr Carr will accept cancellations without penalty until the Wednesday before Donington.
Car 13 has a nice shiny new paint job for 2009 - how long will it last?
Dave
I give it till the end of practice…bring an aerosol with you!
yeah Doom Raider, you would not normally give up this early… save it until we are on the grid like you normally do. See you on the back row….
The reason for the general gloom is that I need to book the hire van and trailer, and also due to circumstances beyond my control I’ve not got the free time!
BUT…. Good news everybody!
The grey pig has spluttered into life…..Hoorah!
And now the MGCC site…….
Car #60 coming to a back row near you!!!!!
Well all this chit chat about racing isn’t giving me the hump… much. Started the old girl up the other day (No 43 before you say anything, I know where that button is!)after a harsh winter ouside on the trailer with yours truly fretting on the antifreeze levels and squeezing her pipes on a daily basis. Any way hope to be spectating/spannering (Robs entered so I’ll pack some spares!) then it’s off to the Falklands. Could have done Cadwell on my return but not the day my kids go back to school!!!! So only Snetterton rounds 9 and 10 for me and the tripod. While hopefully the majority of you and your cars will have gained a few Kgs, I will endevour to return the right side of 14 stone instead of the wrong side of 15! If anyone would like a Penguin I’ll be taking advanced orders at Donners. C U L8R
MidgetAce,
good to hear from you - thought you had already gone pengiun counting from lack of posts!
We’ll be expecting newsletter content from our foriegn correspondant on a regular basis, then a dramatic return to the UK with a clean sweep for the final two rounds….
Dave
Evening all, new paint job not quite finished yet so I may be bring spray can to donny! It wouldn’t be the start of the season with out tinkering till the early hours in a pit garage on Friday night.
Not long now
Pete
32 entries from PBIC now!
yes, but still no sign of Stan & Ollie
Looks like a lot of the BCV8 boys have abandoned their own championship
& joined the PBIC
you know it makes sense…..
So who else didn’t start their car prep in time? I still have one MGF a non-runner and one MGF a non-stopper with no brakes! No chance of fitting in any pre-season testing either so quali at Donington will be a trip into the unknown!
John,
that’s not really fair to the BCV8, it looks like more have simply vanished and not entered Donington.
Dave
O.K. then, not many of the BCV8 boys have not entered Donington
Except for the ones that have entered the PBIC
We started our car prep about two years ago!
The original plan was to go standard however the thought of beating the old man was too appealing.
Is the metro ready paul?
So you want to beat your old man Ollie? Not many people achieved that last year so you’ll have to be going some!
The Metro will not be ready so I’ve e-mailed the comp sec to change my entry to the MGF. Just hope I don’t have to go to the back of the queue of 14 reserves! Seriously though, we should be getting our own race with that many entries and it looks good for the rest of the season.
Hi Paul
If your in the F you will be at the back of the grid any way !!!!!
You mean 37th??!! I hear we are oversubscribed now even if we have our own race!
No trombones but obviously a good hearing trumpet…..
Current news from race committee is that we do have a reserve even if we have a whole race to ourselves, the organisers also have the problem that some other grids have filled rapidly in the last couple of days!
Hopefully more news on the serious website soon….
Dave
Would be nice to have an idea of timings for the weekend but finals should be out soon.
Good to see that the series has managed to get good grids.
Do use the pre-entry forms though, as this avoids the need to miss a race. Costs nothing but gets you place on the grid. As Oulton is filling up already.
Pete
Mentioned in despatches on the main PBIS web site, Just how far up the ladder can Jonesey racing web site progress?
It just does’nt get any better than that!!
