Pre - Race Report – Oulton Park May 2008

Greetings pre-race fans!

We are all gearing up for the next Peter Best bash at Oulton on Saturday the 17th of May.

The weather forecast is: Mostly Cloudy, highs of 16’C lows of 9’C. 20% chance of rain.

To date we have a grid of 24 entries and have narrowly avoided a repeat of the Donington debacle where the Peter Best competitors were scattered amongst alternative races.

Yes I am pleased to report we have our OWN race!

On the plus side this means that last year’s Champ JW is no longer a reserve and will now be able to race. On the down side this means that I will need my long range binoculars to catch a glimpse of him as he disappears in the distance.

It will be interesting to see if the spate of unreliability problems has been resolved for the following drivers.

Car 12 Paul Eales only managed a handful of laps at Mallory but I did not find out the cause of the problem, let’s hope he has!
Peter Andrews / Simon Tinkler’s car 18 was suffering from overheating and to combat this they may need to detune the car. I wholeheartedly support this course of action!
And of course now JW is no longer a reserve he will have to deal with that pesky speck of dust that plagued him during the previous race.

There has been an outbreak of fraternal racing in the PBIC with two sets of brothers competing. First we have the Brookes and then we have the Brothers Grimm, namely myself and my brother Alan in the Montego Recreational Vehicle car 45.
My brother did far better then he should have done (in my opinion) at Mallory and I can only hope that his relaxed attitude to car preparation (i.e. he refuses to do it) will take its toll at Oulton. No doubt the tyres will be flat again at any rate.

Nevertheless Oulton has a reputation for being a bit of a car breaking track, and as we are fortunate enough to be racing on the full circuit the results are in the lap of the Gods…or more accurately the lap of Oulton!

Be there or miss out!
