Donington 24th March 2008
Pre-race report
Greetings race fans!
Well the wait is almost over with anticipation reaching fever pitch as the start of the 2008 season fast approaches.
Despite having the whole winter to prepare my car I once again find myself without an engine with just a few weeks to go before race day. I am told this is the best way to keep the adrenaline going.
We have a packed race calendar this year with the welcome return of Brands Hatch & Mallory Park to test the driver’s mettle. (Or fibre glass in the case of many).
The entry list is filling up with the new system of having reserves who are not actually reserves because they can still race type system. (All will become clear as the year progresses).
Rumours abound that James Darby has been beavering away over the winter months and has swapped his trusty B engine for a sparkling new V8. His absence from the entry list suggests teething troubles are still being ironed out.
Expect to see a new light-weight Peter Andrews this year as it is rumoured he has adopted a punishing fitness regime during the winter months in an effort to reduce the race weight of his car and gain those vital seconds per lap.
I have adopted an alternative regime of pie eating in order to weigh the car down and improve the ride height by compressing the springs right down onto the bump stops!
All in all it promises to be a fantastic season, so as they used to say in a non-PC way in days of old:
“Gentlemen start your engines!”
And also get your wellies & rain macs out as the first race is Donington & it always rains there!
