15/08/07..Race Report Castle Combe….
The sun was shining on the MGCC as we assembled for the days racing at ‘Combe. Due to the massive entry the PBIC were placed in the grassy knoll on the main straight before Quarry Corner, ideal for working on the cars!
My new engine was running sweetly and fuel was flowing nicely out of the carb intakes and vaporising on the exhaust pipe in true MG fashion. Qualifying afforded me the chance to test out the various racing lines I would be adopting during the race proper and I managed to achieve a lowly grid position of 30th out of 40 , which was 6th in the PBIC grid. With qualifying out of the way I set to work to deal with the fuel leak and am grateful to Peter Andrew’s (car 18) mechanic (Richard?) for finding time in between his incessant tea drinking to give me some welcome advice and assistance. The Race.
The earlier races had delivered a large amount of damaged cars with the knock on effect of reducing our race to eight laps.
I managed a good start and made up several places only to find myself behind one of the numerous Metros. Unfortunately this one was driving Miss Daisy and was assisted up to racing speed by my trusty BGT!
The B was going well through the chicanes and other than a bit of exchange of paint with a blue midget and my random gear selections, the race and car went well.
The constant cloud of Metros buzzing about left me totally clueless (no change there) as to my final race position and I was surprised to discover that I had finished 3rd in the end.
To be honest I was gifted this following the breakdown of car 38 James Darby, but I am told that true racers never admit to this sort of thing.
Back to the garage now to tighten up all those loose nuts etc, in readiness for the double-header at Snetterton on the 6th & 7th of October.
More details to follow…
Web site update. My regular reader will have noticed that my web site has undergone a remarkable revamp, and although the editorial is still rubbish at least it is nice to look at.This is entirely due to the hard work of my new webmeister at Danitech.co.uk with the support of my sponsor Motorlawyers.co.uk (two plugs for the price of one).I will hopefully be able to update the site with more drivel on a much more regular basis, affording you all with extra opportunities to take the p***.Regards
Jonesey.
